This growing selection of out-of-print classic films on DVD is offered as a special service to classic movie fans. For a minimal fee to cover copying time and the cost of the disc, customer label insert and slim jewel case, plus postage and handling (plus an additional $3 fee for mailing outside the US), you will receive a DVD-R copy, dubbed from original VHS releases or 16mm film, or recorded from TV broadcasts, mostly digital and commercial-free, and NOT regionally encoded. They do not come in a standard size case or with any graphics on the disc, since they are NOT original commercial releases (those would be collectibles and priced very high in most cases). But they do have attractive original label inserts in the slim jewel cases. We do not offer streaming video or internet downloads at this time.
About Labels: We use non-adhesive jewel case inserts as standard labels, with no identification on the discs themselves. (We recommend writing the titles on the discs with sharpies, which is what we do.) These labels can also be inserted into your own full size jewel cases (rather than the slim jewel cases we use) if you would like, but we cannot provide those larger cases. Some of you have requested that adhesive labels be placed on the DVDs. While we do not recommend this due to occasional playability issues with certain DVD players - and we cannot be responsible for playability problems or damage to your DVD player - we will do it by request only, OR we can send you the labels separately so that you can attach them yourselves, or attach them to another type of case. If you wish to have BOTH adhesive labels AND insert labels, there is an additional charge of $1.00 per label. Please email us about this before placing your order so that we can send you a link to pay this charge (especially if you are located outside the U.S., since paying for the labels separately will trigger an additional mailing fee). Indicate when you write whether or not you want them attached or mailed loose. Adhesive labels may not be available for all titles. (For anything other than label issues, please use this email instead. )
The films listed, primarily from the 1930s, 40s, 50s, and 60s, are out of print and not readily available for sale in original packaging except as collectibles. (We will not knowingly provide copies of any films that are currently "in print"; if you are aware of any recent releases of the films listed below, please let us know so we can remove them. Please do not use this email link for anything other than to inform us about commercial releases.) It is always better to own remastered commercial releases. In fact, dozens of the films we once listed are now available in remastered versions on commercial dvd. Please see a list of them HERE.
The films on this site are not for sale, but copies can be yours when you pay shipping and handling charges, plus copying time, and the cost of the disc, label and case, a total of only $9.25 each. How can they be free if you have to pay $9.25? Because we are not selling the movies; we are only asking for reimbursement for our costs in making copies for your private collection and sending them to you. Yes, you can probably find DVDs in stores for less than $9.25, but not any of these titles! These are not cheap public domain titles, which are readily available at dozens of sources on the Web. If you spend a few moments glancing through the list, you will probably find many films that you have been searching for, or that you haven't seen for many years.
Please note that none of these movies is available with subtitles or extra features (unless specifically noted). Some may have closed-captioning, but you will have to try it on your equipment after you receive the DVD.
All movies are in DVD-R format, with no regional designations, so they will play on players all over the world. It doesn't matter where you are located in the world. Only commercial DVDs are regionally encoded. Ours are not.
Playability is not guaranteed, however, since some players (several Sony brands in particular, as well as some older machines, less expensive players and combination players) often do not handle DVD-R disks very well. (This page has a partial listing of some players that may have problems: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.) If you have problems with a DVD you received from us, first try playing it on a different brand/model of player. If it still doesn't work, we will be happy to replace it at no charge upon return to us. No replacements will be offered after 2 weeks, so please inspect your movies as soon as you receive them. Refunds will not be offered except under very unusual circumstances.
Be sure to bookmark this page and return regularly to see what's been added, since we will continue to add new titles every week. You may click on the titles below for more details. We send an email newsletter every two weeks or so to those who have ordered from us or who request it. Email us if you would like to be added to the mailing list. But please keep in mind that you can always find out what's new on the site by visiting this page and looking at the top. The newsletter is just a reminder, with no information that is not already on the site.
If you are ever unsure about whether a particular title we list is the one you want (either because you're unsure of the title or because there is more than one film with the same title), and there is no description, we recommend that you visit the Internet Movie Database, which contains listings for almost every movie and TV show ever made. Failing that, you may write to us.
Ordering information: Please use the Shopping Cart, even if you plan to order by mail rather than online. When you have chosen the items you want and placed them in your Shopping Cart, and clicked on Checkout, you will see a form that appears to ask for a lot of information. It ONLY requires your name, address, a phone number (in case of delivery problems), and email address (so we can acknowledge your order). There is a button to check at the bottom if your shipping and billing information are the same. That is all that is required, other than your credit card information, which is asked for on the next page. We have purposely kept this simple. There is no more information required than there would be if you had registered for PayPal or any other such service, and you can use auto-complete for most boxes if you have it activated on your computer. Please do not let this form stop you from ordering. Of course, if you would rather order by mail, check that box at the bottom of the shopping cart and you will not be asked for a credit card. But be sure to fill out the address information rather than simply printing out the shopping cart, because otherwise we will not have an address to which to send you your order! Also, please do not use the word "None" or anything similar on the form, as it will appear as part of your address. Just leave a blank if, for example, you are outside the U.S. and do not have a "state." We will also accept PayPal, but you will need to write and make arrangements in advance.
Please note that we do not accept Discover or American Express, and if you are paying by mail, we only accept checks or money orders. Please do not write any credit card number on the order form and send it to us, because we cannot accept any credit cards other than through the shopping cart, and your order will be returned.
Shipping Information: We normally ship by First Class U.S. Mail within 48 hours of payment. In order to save time, no email acknowledgements are normally sent, unless you request one or have some other special requests. In order to keep costs down, we do not use UPS, FedEx, or other courier service, and will only use it if sent a pre-paid shipping envelope by a customer or if you pay extra in advance. Seven titles or more are shipped by Priority Mail in the United States only. If you wish to add an additional $3 charge for Priority Mail shipping for fewer than 7 titles in an order within the U.S. only, please use this link to add it to your order:
U.S. Postal Express shipping is available, but must be paid in advance. Write and ask for information.
Quantity Discount: If you order 10 DVDs from our listing (does not apply to special orders), you'll get 1 more with no $9.25 charge! Order 20 and get 2 free, and so forth. When you order using our shopping cart, your 11th title will automatically be free, as will your 22nd, and so forth. If you only order ten, you will not receive a free selection, so be sure to add it when you fill out your shopping cart. If you only order 20, you will get just one free. You must order 22 to get two free. And they must all be shipped at the same time. You may not accumulate credits with multiple orders, since the discount is based primarily on shipping savings resulting from mailing more than 10 DVDs in one package rather than separately.
Important Note for Non-U.S. Citizens: If you are located in a country other than the United States (including Canada), a $3 fee will be added to your order to cover our costs in filling out and delivering the customs paperwork, and to offset additional postage costs. There is just one fee per order, not per DVD. Shipments outside the U.S. are not made every day, so you might experience delays compared to U.S. customers.
Special Orders: Due to a large backlog of work, we have temporarily suspended special orders for titles which are not currently part of this collection. You may write to request titles if you like, and if we have them in the collection waiting to be added to this site (not currently listed below, in other words), you will be able to order them, but we will not be able to get anything that has to be obtained from a third party until further notice. Of course, if the movie is more recent, and/or in print, we recommend the Classic Movies A-Z List, where you can purchase films from either Movies Unlimited or Amazon.com, on DVD and/or VHS through our affiliate arrangement with them. Films which are not listed on these pages cannot be provided under the terms described above (pricing, bonus, shipping costs, etc.), but almost certainly will be available for sale at their normal prices. Remember that collectibles (in original packaging, in other words) will almost always be priced higher if you find them on eBay or other sites offering collectible items. We do not offer DVDs in original packaging through Free Movies on DVD, but we do have a listing of titles that we once offered which are now available through Movies Unlimited or, in some cases, Amazon.com. You'll find that listing HERE.

The full listing is below. Click on the movie title for more information. (Except for the grouping called "New - No Descriptions Yet" which you can still purchase; we simply haven't written descriptions at this time, but we hope to in the future.) The list has been separated into 15 pages, plus this index page, to speed loading time. The next page has movies starting with the letter A, plus any beginning with numbers. The links to the movies on the list below will take you to one of those pages. Or you can scroll down each page and go through the full listings manually if you like, using the links at the bottom of each page to take you to any of the other pages. We have also created a partial listing of some of the favorite actors and actresses whose films are listed here, with links to those films. This section of the site is still incomplete (and will probably always be a little behind the main listings), so if you don't see your favorite actor or actress, that doesn't mean we have no movies featuring them! There is also a list of Collections, including series such as The Crime Doctor and Andy Hardy. The Films:
Don't forget that there are hundreds of titles listed below the main listing, under "New - No Descriptions Yet." Some of them aren't so "new," but we felt it was better to get this titles listed on the site right away rather than wait until we've been able to create descriptions and illustrations.
